The Cambridge Graphene Centre welcomes Dr Luigi Occhipinti as Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer.
Dr Occhipinti joined the Department of Engineering at Cambridge University in 2014, with the role of Outreach and Business Development Manager of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative manufacturing in Large-Area Electronics. Dr Occhipinti was senior member of the management staff at STMicroelectronics, a major supplier of broad semiconductor devices and integrated systems. He has long-standing industrial experience working with commercial partners and research collaborators in the field of large-area electronics, sensors, and post-silicon technologies as an active member of the manufacturing research community for more than twenty years. He has been principal investigator of research projects worth in excess of £130M. His patents and publications span multiple areas of advanced materials, including carbon-based materials, molecular bio-systems and diagnostics, advanced signal processing, nonlinear computation, micro-electro-mechanical, optical and chemical sensor technologies, with focus on device miniaturisation and advanced integration technologies for smart products manufacturing.
Luigi's unique background in industry, innovation, project and technology management, academic and industrial research will allow the CGC to further flourish.

Dr Luigi Occhipinti will lead the effective operation of the CGC, to ensure that the services are carefully aligned with our mission to investigate the science and technology of graphene and related materials, and establish joint industrial-academic activities to promote innovative and adventurous research with an emphasis on applications.

At the same time as Dr Occhipinti joins the CGC, Project Manager and Technology Transfer Officer Dr Anna Motta departs for new opportunities at Talga. Talga are an industrial partner of the CGC.
